Event Description:
Each year, DeKalb County 4-H members have the opportunity to participate in the Chick Chain Project. Youth sign up to buy 15-day old baby chicks. They raise them all spring and summer and bring 3 grown chickens back to the show and auction in the fall.
Grand and Reserve Champion chickens are awarded and then the pens of 3 pullets are sold to the public at auction.
4-H members receive their initial investment back from buying the chicks, plus some prize money. Any remaining money raised goes straight back into the 4-H program. Anyone is welcome to come bid or just support the 4-H members. There should be 35-40 pens of birds to sell. They will make great laying hens!
